We have finished our "site" challenge here at lotr_fic_recs and we are now putting this journal on hiatus until Bilbo goes a'wandering once more on screen and there are many more fics about Middle Earth to rec!

So, basically, with a tip of the hat to ohiblather, we are “Waiting for Bilbo”!

Our latest challenge in the Lord of the Rings Fan Fiction Recommendations Live Journal Community, otherwise known as lotr_fic_recs, is complete. The challenge was to recommend the archive sites and individual author sites which provide LotR stories, songs, poems, or art.

This was an important challenge and we appreciate those of you who participated in this challenge. Thank you so very much! The results are found here.

Feel free to continue to rec sites for this challenge forever.

Thanks for all your hard work on behalf of the fandom!

A quote from a grateful newcomer, farfallacqui on this challenge -- "I just want to say I really appreciate the fact that you guys put this together so that folks who are REALLY new, like me, can actually start to find the good stuff. I can't believe I wasted so much time on crapfiction.suck when there were all these good fics hanging around on here, tagged and everything! Merry/Pippin, in some ways, is a ghost fandom, I'm finding. I feel like half the stories I read tonight were read using the help of the Wayback Machine website, off of sites that hadn't been alive for five years. There were definitely some livejournals that hadn't seen posting for five years. Anyway, without this community I'd still be plodding aimlessly through suckfiction.blah, and I'm exceeeedingly grateful. I want to give all of you a hug."

Yep, as I said in the challenge, it is important to leave footprints…

Please come on over to lotr_fic_recs and recommend the archive sites and individual author sites which provide LotR stories, songs, poems, or art. These do not have to be your favorites. (And I know some of you have comprehensive lists!) As with story challenges, you may recommend your OWN site after you have recommended at least one other site.

Recommend as many sites as you like, as often as you like, just be sure to use our special site template.

The challenge entry is over here.

Also, we are still looking for entries on the prior challenge here for recommending the reccers – providing links to the individuals and groups who have lists of recommended stories in the LotR fandom.

Please advertise the challenge in your own journal or in any communities where individuals might be interested.

Thanks!

As I said in a prior challenge, a lot of LotR web sites are disappearing, LiveJournals of individual fans and communities are being deleted or going silent, and, as we have found in our challenges, even some stories and novels are gone (except for the precious private hoards of a few fans). And since the goal of this community is to provide footprints for future fans to follow to all the good stuff in the fandom, this challenge is rather important.

Reccers

For this challenge, please recommend the archive sites and individual author sites which provide LotR stories, songs, poems, or art. These do not have to be your favorites. (And I know some of you have comprehensive lists!) ETA: As with story challenges, you may recommend your OWN site only after you have recommended at least one other site.

For this one, we have a special template for your rec. At a minimum, provide the URL, but if possible please tell us more. As usual, we recommend that you copy and paste:

Also, if you could, please do go back to the prior challenge along these lines here. and recommend the reccers – provide links to the individuals and groups who have lists of recommended stories in the LotR fandom

THANKS SO VERY MUCH!!

This is elanorgardner apologizing for the silence here at lotr_fic_recs. I have been much preoccupied of late with the other pressing parts of my life. In addition, my lovely co-moderator, sophinisba informed me back in November that she is also overwhelmed with other obligations in her life and will have to step back as co-moderator of the community (although she did kindly offer to remain, as she has always been, chief link-updater and tag checker.) Thank you Sophie for your selfless work here at the community. MWAH!

Now, onward....

And that's the end of the Dom/Elijah recs challenge. Thanks to cara_dee for the recs and to others who commented or helped me track down links here, on Dreamwidth, and by e-mail. We never close comments on the posts here, so if you have another Dom/Elijah fic to rec but it didn't work out for you this month, just comment when you can. elanorgardner will post a new challenge in the next day or two.

It's been quite a while since we did a challenge for an RPS pairing, and this one's an old favorite of mine.

Domlijah

Recommend a good Real Person Slash story that is focused on the pairing of Dominic Monaghan/Elijah Wood -- any rating, any time period -- which was not recommended in the previous challenges (see list behind the cut below). Post your recommendation as a comment on THIS entry please. If the fic is no longer available online, give us the information you have anyway, and maybe someone else can help you track it down.

Actually, a lot of the fics that were recommended in previous challenges (2004, 2005, and 2006) have since disappeared, been taken down, or gone behind f-lock. Please take a look at the list and comment if you know of public copies of the fics. I did some searching earlier today and found a few.

The links below the cut go to the recommendations as they were posted here at lotr_fic_recs. From there you can link to the stories, and in cases where the link has changed we've tried to note that both here and in the original comment thread.
